About the Founder
My name is Shefau and I am delighted to share how I merge my experience in education and my wellness lifestyle to design plans for others. I am a 200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT200) who holds a Master of Science from Southern Connecticut State University and CT State certification in Education. I have concentrations in music, studio art, education and psychology and I incorporate these studies into unique mind-body wellness practices.
I have been an urban educator since 2000 and I began incorporating yoga and wellness practices into my life in 2002, when I was expecting my first child. I had just started the first few years of my elementary teaching career and I turned to yoga to help navigate the physical and mental changes I felt as a first-time mother.
I began to incorporate meditation into my wellness practices in 2017. These practices helped me get closer to my true self by reducing anxiety, improving the quality of my sleep, and allowing me to stay mindful and focused during unanticipated stressful situations. This experience inspired me to obtain a Foundational Teaching Certificate from YogaFit International Studios, to offer wellness in my community.
In 2018, after seeing the benefits of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation in my classroom students, I decided to broaden my full-time teaching focus to bring wellness to people who live in, or work in underserved communities. I had an opportunity to participate in the Collab Spring Accelerator Program, in New Haven, CT. Participation in this 10-week program taught me what I needed to make Zen Zilla Yoga and Wellness its best, during my transition into entrepreneurship.
Since Spring of 2018, saw the beginning of partnerships with agencies whose values for community wellness align with mine. I am grateful to have partnerships with Leadership, Education, and Athletics in Partnership, Inc (LEAP), One Village Healing, The Urban Collective, The Well for Women, and Elm Village where I offer my unique style of mindfulness, meditation, and movement to children, teens, and adults all over Connecticut.
In the Summer of 2019, I deepened my study and practice by completing the 200 Hour Living Yoga Teacher Training at the Breathing Room Yoga Center, and became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) with the Yoga Alliance.
Because yoga has transformed my life, I am passionate about the creative ways I share my craft with women, children, and teens, living in urban areas. Join me as I share the techniques that have helped me through Zen Zilla Yoga and Wellness.
Namaste,
Shefau
